The events of Maundy Thursday through Good Friday were one continuous act of giving life. The winning of forgiveness through the giving of His life on the cross, and the distribution of forgiveness through the giving of His life in the means of grace and the Lord’s Supper are one continuous act of giving life. This is why He could say on the cross, “It is finished,” for He did not just win life for all, he also distributed life for all. Forgiveness is not just a possibility, it is a reality.
“This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me… This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.” (Luke 22:19-20, NIV1984). Whether we believe it or not (see 1 Corinthians 11:29), forgiveness is there for all.
“It is finished.” (John 19:30).
